I’ve known Cody for a while now as we work together at my day job. He is always so easy going and laid back and it was such a treat to finally meet Michelle, his other half. He proposed last year on a camping trip in the mountains and I was thrilled when they asked me to photograph their big day. I met her for the first time last fall when we did their engagement photos. Even then, Cody was completely enthralled by her and couldn’t keep his eyes off of her. Their interaction was just so sweet and it made me so excited for their wedding this summer!
One of my favorite things about being a photographer in Colorado are the sunny days and gorgeous backdrops. And Cody and Michelle’s wedding was the quintessential Colorado wedding. We headed up to Wild Basin Lodge and were greeted with green trees and creamy light.
More and more, couples are choosing to do a first look before the ceremony. And while that helps us photographers with the timeline of the day, I still love the old-fashioned way: waiting to see each other for the first time as the bride walks down the aisle. That’s exactly what Cody and Michelle did and I think it was everyone’s favorite part of the whole day. Is there anything sweeter than that first moment of eye contact? I couldn’t stop myself from tearing up as I photographed it.
The ceremony was full of emotion and love. Their vows were as sincere as I’ve ever heard. And though the love carried through the rest of the evening, the mood went from quiet and reflective to a group of people that were ready to have some fun. The whole bridal party had me laughing during photos after the ceremony and the bride and groom seemed to relish in the excitement.
Every aspect of the day was a perfect reflection of the couple: from the outdoor ceremony with the beautiful trees and the stream running alongside, to the rustic details that Michelle wove into the decor, to the delicious food. They tied their whole day together so well and it made my job easy and fun.
I love when I can imagine a couple’s life together on the day of their wedding. And their life is going to be full of making memories with good people around them. Oh, and lots of laughing too.
Cody and Michelle, thank you so much for inviting me to be a part of your special day. It was an incredible event and more importantly, I think you guys are incredible together. Thank you!
As always epic thanks to my associate photographer Seth of Seth James Photography.
